Coronavirus: extension of measures taken by FAMHP to avoid medicinal product shortages

date: 28/04/2020

On 1 April 2020, the FAMHP took steps to avoid a shortage of medicinal products. These actions will now be extended by one month until 1 June 2020.

The FAMHP closely monitors stocks of medicinal products used to treat COVID-19 patients (such as narcotics and muscle relaxants for patients on ventilators).

The FAMHP has drawn up a list of medicinal products and raw materials used in the treatment of COVID-19, for which emergency measures have been in place since 1 April 2020. These measures have since been refined and havenow been extended until 1 June 2020. This notably involves measures relating to the export of medicinal products, quotas for wholesalers and the optimal distribution between hospitals.

Thanks to these measures and their extension, solutions and alternatives for all medicinal products necessary for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in Belgium currently exist and will exist in the near future.
